There are hundreds of wealth management firms. Why is Osbon Capital Management right for me?

Osbon Capital Management is the right fit for anyone who wants to index their investments. We practice only one style of investing: tax efficient, globally diversified portfolios for individuals using indexing.

Moreover, Osbon Capital Management is the right fit for someone who wants the boutique experience — small firm, big attention. We are built for exceptional personal service, operate transparently, and limit the number of clients we take.

There are many other choices and models an investor can choose. You serve your best interest by researching these choices, and Osbon Capital Management, thoroughly. As you do, you may want read some of our articles, which greatly expand on our index boutique approach.

Why should I trust you with my money?

Investigate Osbon Capital Management as you would any trusted provider. Talk to our references. Talk to Chief Investment Officer John Osbon, who has 25 years of direct investment experience for individuals at a high level. Review our results and learn how we customize portfolios for each client.

Transparency is an important value at Osbon Capital Management — we are happy to share the details of how this business works — how we invest, the experts we rely on, the fees paid at every stage of the process. It's an open book, no-surprises enterprise. We think we run this business in a way that serves our clients extremely well. We encourage you to take a look and decide for yourself.

Another important note: Osbon Capital Management is an SEC-registered investment advisor (RIA). As a registered investment adviser we have the fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interest of our clients. That is not an informal industry code of ethics; it is a legal obligation to put the interests of the client first. Broker/dealers are not bound by this heightened requirement; they are completely free to recommend investments that may benefit themselves more than clients (for instance, through commissions or fees). It's a very important distinction.

What is your outlook on the market?

What is different about Osbon Capital Management is that we make no predictions. We don't make or rely on market forecasts. We have no opinions about market conditions, valuations, economic situations, or likely events in the future.

As efficient market believers and practitioners, our goal is to represent the markets, not predict them. We believe that index investing allows for attractive risk-adjusted returns across all asset classes. Furthermore, careful portfolio construction can optimize the relationship between risk and return.

What we don't believe is that is possible reliably predict or time the markets. We do not move into investments because we think they are ready to surge in value, nor move out of others that seem ready for a decline. We buy, hold and rebalance indexes that represent the entire market. We think and invest long term, and are not interested in chasing the faint possibility of a big short term return.

Do I really need a professional investment advisor if most of my money is going into index investments?

In our opinion, hiring an expert to manage the content, risk and costs of an investment portfolio makes sense in the same way that hiring a knowledgeable architect or business consultant makes sense — you can immediately apply the benefit of their insight, judgment, resources, network and experience to your own situation and goals. This is just as true with indexing as with any other investment strategy.

As an index boutique, we focus all of our energies on the important nuances of indexing, including the selection of what we consider to be best-of-best ETFs. We feel strongly that indexing should be a part of every investing strategy (even the most sophisticated pension funds and university endowments take advantage of indexing), while the specific percentage of assets devoted to indexes should be a matter of personal choice.

Interestingly, one third of Osbon Capital Management clients are themselves investment professionals. We believe that our client base comes to us for the same reason that doctors go to doctors. Many investment professionals realize there are many roads to success over time, so they may choose to incorporate indexing along with their own personal investment strategies.

What else do you recommend besides indexes?

We don't. Indexing across the major asset classes of fixed income, alternative, and equities fulfills the investment needs of 95% of investors, in our view. We are happy to offer a constructive, objective and independent opinion on non-index investments based on professional experience, or we can refer you to experienced specialists in non-index areas.
